ANOTHER NEW POEM from SHIRL
"TIGHTROPE"

Why didn't you share your pain?
Or did you, but no one heard
If I saw you walking the tightrope
I would have warned you, my voice strained
my face stained with tears

There were vultures who didn't care
who ate away at your soul
they saw you walking the tightrope
and ignored the danger there
they just let you go.

What was on your mind?
while walking this rope, unsteady & barefoot
What if you fall? Could you hold on?
If your tired hands gave up and let go
Who would save you?
who is waiting to cushion the blow

I wish you never saw the tightrope
maybe then you wouldn't be tempted
to touch it
to walk on it
Maybe you couldn't hear the warnings
maybe you couldn't see the risk

I'm not a vulture
nor an angel
I'm only me full of hope
that you're in a beautiful place
away from the tightrope.
