"DANCE"

This early morning sustains the view,
that ancient morning long ago, made new.
Child born to live and die so young,
like others before, as stories run.

He flowed with passion,
over the grey abyss of love;
Drenched with unforgiving yesterdays,
never a thought of what’s to come.

Encircling affection shelters me,
while rehearsing the minuet of memory.
The hunger is fully fed by his gaze,
and the others who stay partly dazed.

As I ruminate and keep writing,
careless energy of years give way…
should I sit casually, rise gracefully,
or should I kneel and pray.

You ravished me up with your costumes –
but brought me up short.
Your staged world darkened,
disposed in silence, until my mourning aborts.

Distant lands now bathed in loss.
Fields threaded with cairn and cross.
Inviting me to lie down in your mist,
those thick colors of foreverness.

Joy burst of my beating heart, once fractured;
Almost all recollection now thrust backwards.

Shall I remember to forget:
your somber skin, boarded up, vacant look?
Shall I forget to remember:
your compassion for all life and flannel shirts?

Our spiritual journey so long ago completes,
the treasures you left, I thirst to repeat.
Still feeling your warmth after a cool spring rain,
A sign of comfort – after abundant pain.

I often wonder what could have been,
had you stayed with us longer, and not caved in.
Yet all your lessons have triggered my advance;
Love intensely, speak gently.....and always dance.
